Frequently asked questions

Everything about joining circles, getting evaluated, contributing, and getting paid — in one place.

Getting started

Zumr is a platform for trusted money circles that operates under the supervision of the Central Bank of Oman’s Fintech Regulatory Sandbox. Here’s how it works: you join a circle, contribute a fixed amount each month, and receive the full pooled amount once during the circle — all through a seamless, private digital experience.

Zumr is an Omani fintech company founded in 2022, with a mission to make fair financial opportunities accessible to everyone through a modern take on the traditional money circle. Zumr graduated from the Central Bank of Oman’s fintech accelerator — in partnership with Omantel — in September 2023, and now operates under the supervision of the Central Bank’s Fintech Regulatory Sandbox.

A money circle — a Rotating Savings and Credit Association — is a group of people who each contribute a fixed amount periodically. Every member receives the full collected amount once during the circle’s duration. It is a reliable way to save and access a lump sum without traditional credit.

Zumr offers two kinds of circles. Public circles bring together members who have been verified by Zumr, while private circles are dedicated to organisations and their employees. Both run on the same secure, transparent platform.

No download is required. Zumr launched first as an easy-to-use website that works well from your phone, so you can join circles, contribute, and track your progress from any device. A dedicated mobile app is currently in development and will be released soon.

Zumr takes the traditional money circle and turns it into a modern, secure digital experience:

  • Complete privacy; you don’t need to know the other members of your circle.
  • Trusted and secure; safeguards that reduce the risk of fraud.
  • Full transparency; follow every detail clearly and in real time.
  • No manual transfers; contributions are deducted automatically from your bank account.
  • Flexible; join from anywhere, at any time.
  • Organised in advance; set months and turns let you plan with confidence.
  • Installments start as low as 5 OMR a month, and you don’t need to worry if a member misses their payment.

Circles & membership

You can participate in two circles at the same time, as long as you don’t exceed your DBR (Debt Burden Ratio) limit.

Circle durations currently range from 3 to 12 months. We are gradually extending durations and increasing contribution amounts as we grow within the Central Bank of Oman’s Fintech Regulatory Sandbox.

Monthly contributions start from as low as 5 OMR. You select your monthly installment from the available choices when you join.

Each member receives the full pooled amount once during the circle. When you join, you can choose the payout date that suits you from the available options, and when it’s your turn the payout is transferred directly to your bank account.

You can unlock early slots by completing a 6+ month circle with on-time payments and providing sufficient proof of a stable source of income.

You don’t need to worry if a member misses their payment. Zumr manages the circle and the associated risk so your experience stays smooth and predictable.

Zumr circles are designed for short-term goals — the contribution period runs for up to one year. Members use them for things like travel, saving for education, buying a car, starting a small project, covering medical bills, or supporting family occasions.

Withdrawing after a circle has started can affect the commitment of the other members, so Zumr sets clear terms for withdrawal or replacement. These cases are handled according to our platform policies to keep things fair for everyone.

A member may be removed for not keeping up with their monthly contributions or for breaching the platform’s terms of use. You’ll always be notified before any action is taken.

Applications & evaluation

When you apply to join a circle, your application undergoes a financial review, including credit score checks. Based on the assessment, your application will either be approved — leading to membership — or rejected with a refund of the admission fee. This process protects the circle’s integrity.

Yes. The credit assessment looks at your existing liabilities and your debt burden ratio (DBR) alongside your declared income. This is how we confirm the monthly contribution is comfortably affordable before you commit to a circle, and it protects the other members who are relying on those contributions.

No. All applications are subject to Zumr’s application evaluation process, internal policy, and credit assessment.

The review typically takes 1–3 working days. We’ll notify you as soon as a decision is made.

If your application isn’t approved, your admission fee is refunded. You’re welcome to apply again in the future as your circumstances change.
